Audition Requirements

The Georgia Mass Band is comprised all age groups; however, due to our competitive nature and the high standard of quality we hold ourselves to, high schoolers and younger must audition in order to participate.

We play a lot of "high intensity" music and can get several songs a week. Not having your fundamentals down is not only a disservice to us, but yourself as well.

High Schoolers and younger MUST successfully pass auditions in order to participate. If you do not audition you will not be allowed to participate for that year.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS - WINDS

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS - PERCUSSION

Wind instrumentalists audition requirements are as followed:

Must bring your own instrument to audition with.

Required to play Bb, Eb, Ab, F, & C Major Scales.
Play F or Bb Chromatic Scale (up & down).
Complete Sight Reading.
Complete our "Extended Playing Test" (Part assignment).

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS - PERCUSSION

Percussion audition requirements are as followed:

Must bring own drum, sticks, & mallets to audition with.

Day 1: 1st round of auditions

Be prepared to learn 1 cadence in which you will be graded upon.
If you make the 1st round you will return for the final audition.

Day 2: Final Audition

Be prepared to learn 1 cadence in which you will be graded upon.

(This audition will be the Final Cut for the summer section)

Frequently Asked Questions (Auditions)

I just graduated/graduating high school this spring, do I have to audition?

No. Graduating Seniors do NOT have to audition.

If I previously participated in the Georgia Mass Band, do I have to audition again?

If you are still in high school or under, yes.

When are auditions?

Audition information will be posted closer to the summer.

Who is required to audition?

High Schoolers and lower will need to audition, and PASS, in order to participate in the Georgia Mass Band.

If I missed auditions will I still be able to participate?

The window to audition will be large enough for this not to be the case; therefore, If you miss auditions you will not be able to participate and will have to wait until the following summer.

What if I fail auditions?

You can continue to re-audition up until the final audition date for that summer. If you still do not pass, continue to practice and try again the following summer.

Do we have to audition with all of the criteria memorized?

No, we are just looking to make sure that you have the basic fundamental skills on your instrument.

Will there be virtual auditions?

There will not be an option to audition virtually.

Can I audition more than once?

Yes, you may audition as many times as you're willing; however, if you are not successful by the last audition date, then you will have to try again the following summer.

Is there a dress code for auditions?

No, there will not be a dress code.
